RULES FOR
The International Genealogy Association Ontario Genealogy Society Echo
(Echo tag: IGA_OGS.GEN)
Revised April 26, 1995
PURPOSE
The purpose of the IGA_OGS message echo is to provide a forum for talking
to the Ontario Genealogical Society. In particular to ask questions about
the Society and to obtain information on its services and holdings. Also
appropriate is discussion on genealogy research in Ontario, Canada.
As OGS*Kintracers is the moderating system of this echo and is wholly run
by the Ontario Genealogical Society we can pass requests to the OGS Office
if we can not answer them directly.
MESSAGE RULES
Messages in this echo must conform with standard rules whereby messages
which contain inflammatory information (flames), personal information, any
personal attacks, and deliberate lack of topic (e.g. - For Sale in this
echo), any of which may be construed as annoying to one or more persons
will result in serious consideration for or actual removal of the source
node from the echo. This echo will be monitored by the moderator, Mike Young
of OGS*Kintracers, 1:250/305.
Messages should be in English if possible, but there are no general
restrictions on language. Also, there is no mandatory requirement to
receive this echo, so queries in the echo may never reach their intended
target.
TAGLINES
It is preferred that *NO* taglines be utilized on messages; but in the
event an originator finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a
tagline, the tagline will only be a short line detailing research
surnames:
Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
Taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the cost
of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.
COMMERCIALISM AND COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING
The moderator neither expressly forbids nor promotes commercialism or
related commercial advertising, but certainly promotes the idea that such
materials should be brief and one-time.
ETIQUETTE
Users of the echo should show consideration for SysOps who very often
spend their own money to move messages around the world. Try to avoid
wasting space. Do not indent left margins, quote too much of a message in
reply, or use unnecessarily big taglines. Informative taglines or
signature lines, giving the names of families you are interested
in, are permitted.
